On Friday, March 17, Dr. Brett Murphey, founder of Woodlands Family Dental and West U Family Dental, once again traveled to Guatemala on a dental health mission trip. This mission trip is an amazing opportunity for members in the dental profession to provide much needed oral health care in underprivileged areas. It is not just about dental care, though. It’s an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ. To fulfill a greater purpose. To serve and to give back.
Eighty participants, including twelve dentist and forty dental students will be making the trip together. Dr. Brett Murphey is going on his 17th trip and is bringing his 9 year old daughter, Ellie, for the first time. She plans to play with the kids and offer stuffed animals and hugs to any frightened patient. His mother-in-law, Kathy Fischnar, will accompany them as a translator. “Making people feel comfortable and cared for has always been very important to me,” said Dr. Murphey. “God has blessed me abundantly. The patients have an immense sense of gratitude and grateful spirits. They make such an impact on my personal life, that I feel I get more in return than I gave them in dental care. I cherish the lifelong friendships God has given to me through these dental mission trips.”
Dr. T. Bob Davis, DDS, founder and coordinator of these annual trips, explains that the dental mission trip exists to motivate, educate, and equip Christian dentists to glorify God.
The team returned to the San Raymundo area of Guatemala where they worked the last few years. There, they will set up a dental clinic for exams, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, extractions, oral health explanations, fluoride treatments and a few other surprise treatments they always get to perform that God has awaiting for the group.
Please be praying for the team. For their safety. For their success. But most of all, pray that the spirit of God moves through the team and the other doctors and volunteers who will be serving the beautiful people of San Raymundo.
Our hope is to bring health and wellness to a small corner of the earth. We can start with making healthy smiles and as you know, we believe Happiness Starts with a Smile!
